Glamping Bavaria

Bavaria is Germany's grand natural stage, a region where the Alps rise as a backdrop to crystal-clear lakes, endless forests and half-timbered villages adorned with painted facades. Glamping in Bavaria lets you inhabit this alpine postcard from accommodation that marries Bavarian tradition with contemporary design: timber cabins with views of the Zugspitze, domes beside Lake Chiemsee, or safari tents on the meadows of the Allgau.

From the snowy peaks of Garmisch-Partenkirchen to the vineyards of Franconia, Bavaria offers extraordinary scenic variety. Glamping here is more than accommodation: it is a gateway to a living culture of open-air beer gardens, fairy-tale castles and trails through national parks where deer and marmots roam freely.

The castles of Ludwig II of Bavaria

Neuschwanstein, the castle that inspired Disney, is merely the most famous of the palaces Ludwig II had built in the nineteenth century. Linderhof, with its miniature Versailles-like gardens, and Herrenchiemsee, the Bavarian replica of Versailles set on an island in Lake Chiemsee, complete the trilogy. All are feasible day trips from glamping sites in southern Bavaria and offer an immersion in the romantic extravagance of a monarch who turned the Alps into a fantasy stage.

Alpine lakes and water sports

Bavaria is home to some of the most beautiful lakes in central Europe. The Konigssee, its emerald-green waters hemmed in by vertical walls in the Berchtesgaden National Park, is explored aboard silent electric boats. The Tegernsee and Starnberger See offer swimming, sailing and boat trips with alpine views. The wilder Walchensee is a favourite among windsurfers. Many glamping sites are set on the shores of these lakes, providing direct access to the water.

Biergarten and Bavarian cuisine

The Biergarten is a Bavarian institution: open-air breweries beneath ancient chestnut trees where one-litre steins of craft beer accompany Schweinshaxe, crispy pork knuckle, or Weisswurst, Munich's white sausage. Obatzda, a spreadable cheese seasoned with onion and paprika, and giant pretzels are obligatory starters. Every village has its own brewery and recipe, making the gastronomic trail an essential part of the Bavarian glamping experience.

Hiking in the Bavarian Alps

The Zugspitze, at 2,962 metres, is the roof of Germany, reachable by cable car or demanding hiking routes. The Berchtesgaden National Park offers trails for all levels, from lakeside strolls beside the Konigssee to ascents of the Watzmann. The Allgau to the west combines alpine meadows with panoramic routes such as the Panoramaweg from Oberstdorf. The DAV network of alpine refuges makes multi-day traverses with overnight stays in the high mountains possible.

The Bavarian Forest and National Park

The Bavarian Forest National Park, along the Czech border, is the oldest protected forest in Germany. Here a philosophy of letting nature take its course has created landscapes of fallen trees colonised by moss and new growth. The treetop walkway, 25 metres above the ground, offers a unique perspective of the forest canopy. Lynx and capercaillie have returned to these woods, which promise a truly wild glamping experience.

The Bavarian Forest and National Park

Glamping in Bavaria brings together the majesty of the German Alps with the comfort of accommodation designed to sit within the landscape. From the southern lakes to the forests of the Bavarian Forest, the range is as varied as the territory itself.

Bavaria is a year-round glamping destination: in summer, lakes and alpine trails beckon outdoors; in autumn, Oktoberfest and the forest colours create a festive mood; in winter, ski resorts and Christmas markets offer glamping with wintry charm.

Bavarian glamping accommodation stands out for its quality and attention to detail, reflecting the German tradition of excellence. Many feature saunas, outdoor hot tubs and panoramic terraces that allow guests to savour the alpine scenery in complete comfort.
