Glamping Warmia-Masuria

Warmia and Masuria is the land of a thousand lakes, a region in north-eastern Poland where more than 2,000 glacial lakes are connected by rivers and canals in a landscape of forests, hills and meadows of serene beauty. Glamping in this region means waking beside water every morning, with the calls of grebes and herons as your natural alarm, in accommodation ranging from lakeside timber cabins to luxury tents among birch woods.

The Great Masurian Lakes route, navigable for over 100 kilometres, is the axis of a region where life revolves around water. Red-brick Teutonic castles punctuate the landscape as reminders of a bellicose medieval past, whilst fishing villages and organic farms offer a genuinely warm Polish rural hospitality.

Sailing the Great Lakes route

The Great Masurian Lakes route connects Lakes Mamry, Niegocin, Talty, Mikolajki and Sniardwy in a navigable traverse of more than 100 kilometres. Sailing boats and houseboats are hired in ports such as Gizycko, Mikolajki and Ruciane-Nida. The route passes through locks, canals and lakes of tranquil water where the only company is herons and swans. Evenings at the marina, with a barbecue by the water and starlit skies, are pure lakeland glamping.

Teutonic castles of Warmia

The Teutonic Order left Warmia a chain of red-brick castles that rank among the most impressive in central Europe. The castle at Lidzbark Warminski, the seat of Warmian bishops where Copernicus lived, blends Gothic architecture with art collections. The castle at Olsztyn, where Copernicus served as administrator, preserves the scholar's astronomical studies. Reszel, with its castle now a hotel, and Nidzica complete a fascinating Teutonic heritage trail.

Kayaking the Krutynia and Czarna Hancza rivers

The Krutynia is Poland's most popular kayaking river, a 100-kilometre descent through crystal-clear water winding between birch woods, meadows with storks and villages where time has stood still. The full trip takes eight to ten days but can be done in stages with overnights at riverside shelters. The Czarna Hancza, further north, offers a wilder route through the Suwalki region. Both rivers are immersive nature experiences that complement lakeland glamping.

Wild fauna: storks, eagles and bison

Warmia and Masuria is an ornithological paradise: every village has its white stork nests, and the Luknajno reserve protects the largest colony of mute swans in Europe. Ospreys and white-tailed eagles soar over the lakes in search of fish. In the forests of the Borecka Primeval Forest, European bison live in freedom. The minimal human intervention and the abundance of aquatic habitats make this region one of the finest wildlife-watching destinations in Europe.

Wild fauna: storks, eagles and bison

Glamping in Warmia and Masuria offers the most complete lakeland experience in central Europe. The land of a thousand lakes combines pristine aquatic nature with Teutonic heritage and a tranquillity hard to find in other European destinations.

Masurian glamping accommodation sits beside lakes surrounded by forest, on rehabilitated rural estates and in nature reserves where aquatic and woodland fauna thrive in freedom. The network of navigable lakes makes it possible to combine glamping with exploration by canoe or sailing boat.

Warmia and Masuria is a glamping destination with excellent value for money, ideal for lovers of water, fishing, sailing and wildlife watching. The region offers a genuine disconnection from the urban world, with limited mobile coverage in many areas that becomes a virtue for the glamper seeking silence.
