Glamping Brittany

Brittany is the Atlantic tip of France, a land of wind-battered lighthouses, pink granite coastlines, legendary forests and a Celtic culture that sets it apart from the rest of the country. Glamping in Brittany offers the experience of sleeping to the rhythm of the tides, with accommodation ranging from converted fishermen's cabins to luxury canvas lodges overlooking islands where lighthouses blink through the night.

The Breton coastline is a continuous spectacle: the cliffs of the Pointe du Raz, the endless beaches of the Finistere, the colourful harbours of Cancale and Paimpol, the Carnac megaliths that predate the pyramids. Inland, surprises include the forest of Broceliande, setting of the Arthurian legends, and the navigable canals that cross a countryside of hydrangeas and granite.

The Pink Granite Coast

Between Perros-Guirec and Trebeurden, the Pink Granite Coast displays rock formations of rosy hue sculpted by wind and sea over millions of years. The customs officers' path follows this fantastical shore where every rock resembles an abstract sculpture. The islands of Brehat, reached by boat, are a subtropical garden sheltered from the winds. Sunsets tint the rocks in shades from salmon to crimson, creating an unrepeatable photographic spectacle.

Crepes, cider and Breton gastronomy

The buckwheat crepe, or galette, is Brittany's signature dish, filled with egg, ham and Gruyere cheese and accompanied by artisan cider served in a ceramic bowl. But Breton gastronomy goes far beyond: the oysters of Cancale, bouchot mussels, grilled Breton lobster and kouign-amann, a caramelised butter cake born in Douarnenez. The markets of Rennes, Saint-Malo and Quimper are feasts of fresh produce that inspire glamping dinners.

The Carnac megaliths and prehistoric mysteries

Carnac hosts the world's greatest concentration of megaliths: more than 3,000 menhirs aligned in rows stretching for kilometres. Erected between 4,500 and 3,300 BC, their exact purpose remains an enigma. The Table des Marchands dolmen and the great broken menhir of Locmariaquer complete a prehistoric landscape without equal. The interpretation centre helps visitors understand monuments that predate Stonehenge by more than a thousand years.

Breton islands and legendary lighthouses

Brittany possesses some of the finest islands in France. Belle-Ile-en-Mer, the largest, offers cliffs, hidden beaches and the landscapes that inspired Monet. Ouessant, the most westerly, is a world of lighthouses and tempests. The Glenan Islands, with their incongruously Caribbean-like waters, are a paradise for diving. Brittany's lighthouses, such as the Phare de la Jument and the Phare de Cordouan, are monuments to human tenacity against the wildest of oceans.

Breton islands and legendary lighthouses

Glamping in Brittany lets you live the most authentic Atlantic France, among spectacular coastlines, Celtic culture and first-rate seafood cuisine. The region, occupying the great north-western peninsula, offers coastal landscapes of a wild beauty unique in Europe.

Breton glamping accommodation sits facing the sea or amid the inland countryside, always close to coastal footpaths like the GR34 that follows the entire shoreline. From the Pink Granite Coast to the Gulf of Morbihan, each stretch of coast has its own personality.

Brittany is an ideal glamping destination for those who appreciate oceanic nature, maritime traditions and a food culture built around shellfish, buckwheat crepes and artisan cider. Inter-Celtic festivals, religious pardons and musical fest-noz events add a vibrant cultural dimension.
