Glamping Noord-Holland

North Holland is so much more than Amsterdam: a province where polders stretch to the horizon, the windmills of Zaanse Schans still turn, the fishing villages of the former Zuiderzee retain their charm, and the beaches of Texel offer a surprising coastal glamping experience. The tulip fields in spring, the cheeses of Edam and Gouda, and the dykes that protect this land reclaimed from the sea compose a quintessentially Dutch landscape.

Glamping in North Holland lets you combine the cultural energy of Amsterdam with the serenity of the countryside, where Friesian cows graze beside canals reflecting clouds and painted timber houses seem like settings from a Golden Age painting. The island of Texel, the largest of the West Frisian chain, is reached by ferry and offers beaches, bird reserves and artisan cheese dairies.

Tulip fields and Keukenhof

Every spring, from mid-April to early May, the bulb fields south of Haarlem become ribbons of colour stretching to the horizon. The Keukenhof gardens, with seven million bulbs in bloom, are the epicentre of this spectacle. But the surrounding fields, explored by bicycle between rows of tulips, hyacinths and daffodils, offer a more authentic experience. Glamping at this time of year lets you live Europe's most famous floral display from a front-row seat.

Fishing villages of the Waterland

North of Amsterdam, the Waterland villages preserve a charm that tourism has discovered without spoiling. Marken, a former island now connected by a dyke, retains green-painted timber houses on stilts. Volendam offers a colourful fishing harbour with herring restaurants. Edam, famous for its cheese, has a centre of canals and seventeenth-century houses. Monnickendam, with its medieval carillon, rounds off a cycling route that is the perfect excursion from a nearby glamping site.

Texel: the island of birds and cheeses

Texel, the largest of the Frisian Islands, packs natural diversity into 160 square kilometres: sandy beaches, bird reserves where spoonbills and avocets can be observed, meadows grazed by Texel sheep, and artisan dairies producing award-winning cheeses. The Texels brewery offers tastings with sea views. Ecomare, the nature centre and aquarium, rehabilitates seals rescued from the Wadden Sea. The ferry from Den Helder takes just 20 minutes, opening the door to a unique island glamping experience.

Amsterdam: culture and canals

Amsterdam, less than an hour from any glamping site in the province, offers an extraordinary cultural density. The Rijksmuseum with Rembrandt's Night Watch, the Van Gogh Museum with the largest collection of the post-Impressionist, and the Anne Frank House are essential visits. The canals of the Grachtengordel, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are explored by boat or on foot past seventeenth-century facades. Street markets, craft breweries and brown cafes are all part of a city that never bores.

Amsterdam: culture and canals

Glamping in North Holland offers a blend of culture, nature and Dutch tradition in one of the country's most diverse provinces. From the proximity of Amsterdam to the beaches of Texel, the offering is varied and accessible.

Glamping accommodation is distributed across the polder countryside north of Amsterdam, the fishing villages of the former Zuiderzee such as Volendam and Marken, and the coast with its dunes and beaches. The island of Texel adds an island option with a character all its own.

North Holland is a perfect glamping destination for those wanting to discover the authentic Netherlands without straying far from Amsterdam. The capital's museums, the Keukenhof bulb fields in spring, and the Alkmaar cheese market are ideal complements to the experience.
